Electric screwdrivers vs. pneumatic screwdrivers - energy efficiency and sustainable installation

With an electric screwdriver, you can sustainably save over 3,000 m3 of air consumption per year. With an average consumption of approx. 6.5 kWh/year, you reduce your costs with the same screwdriving performance.

Example calculation:

 Screws per day

 Pure screwdriving time per day

 Working days per year

 Air consumption m3 / year

 Electricity consumption kWh / year

 Costs € / kWh

Costs € / year

When and why does a brushless electric screwdriver make sense?

A brushless motor is an electric motor without carbon brushes, that is, without sliding contacts. In brushless motors, there is no electrical contact between the moving rotor and the stationary stator.

A brushless electric screwdriver is necessary:

  • When used in cleanrooms
  • When assembling sensitive or electrical components
  • In ESD environments
  • For > 500,000 screwings per year

Other arguments in favor of brushless technology:

  • Brushed technology is no longer being further developed in screwdriving technology
  • Less downtime due to time-consuming maintenance work
  • Almost no price difference between brushed and brushless technology

Difference between lever start and push start system

Lever start system:
The electric screwdriver is started by pressing the start button by hand.

Push start system:
The electric screwdriver starts by pressing the screw on the screw head.

 Advantages

 Disadvantages

Cordless screwdriver

Corded electric screwdrivers

  • Mechanical shut-off clutch
  • via preload of the compression spring in the shut-off clutch
  • Inexpensive
  • High repeatability
  • High speeds possible
  • No need for slow braking
  • IO/NIO statement about current value possible

The torque to be adjusted must be determined with a measuring device.

Electric screwdriver with power cut-off

Specification of a current value proportional to the torque.

Shutdown when current in the motor has reached a set value.

  • A torque value can be entered
  • IO/NIO statement about current value possible
  • Multiple torques can be stored in one device
  • Inaccurate (deviations > 8% - 15%)
  • Very expensive in terms of accuracy

EC screwdriving systems (TCG series)

 Via built-in torque sensor.

  • Very high repeatability
  • Direct torque input possible
  • Torque and angle of rotation display
  • IO/NIO statement
  • Documentable
  • Very long service life
  • Easily controllable
  •  Training of employees necessary
