The joint of the electronic side cutter is box joint. With box joints, the inner leg of the pliers is guided on both sides by two large bearing surfaces in the outer leg of the pliers. This avoids the tilting movements that occur with surface-mounted tong joints. The rivets are only subjected to shear stress, not bending. Among other things, this results in the high quality of the cutting processes and the long service life for which Knipex is renowned. The cutting edges are induction hardened in addition to the oil hardening of the entire pliers. A low-friction double spring is integrated to support the smooth and even opening of the pliers after the cutting process.
ESD protection against uncontrolled electrostatic discharge; safety rust protection
Sudden discharges due to electrostatic charge differences are particularly feared in electronics. The electronic cutting pliers dissipate electrostatic energy evenly and in a controlled manner via the handles.The handles of the cutting pliers are conductive - i.e. not voltage-insulating.This enables slow and therefore safe charge equalization.The rust protection is also harmless for sensitive electronic components.Instead of chrome plating, the electronic cutting pliers are given a mirror polish and a fine oil film to protect against corrosion.As a result, no chrome parts can flake off and fall onto circuit boards.The mirror polish in combination with a fine oil film protects the pliers from corrosion sufficiently for workshop use, provided the oil film is renewed occasionally.

In narrow spaces, e.g. on circuit boards, it is often best to cut from above. In contrast to diagonal cutting pliers, where the cutting edges are a relatively straight extension of the pliers legs, the cutting edges on Knipex electronics diagonal cutting pliers are positioned frontally or at an angle to the pliers legs. This allows an optimum view of the working area while working almost perpendicular to the surface.
